Editorial project for artist Sónia Teles e Silva. Between 2020 and 2024, Sónia dedicated herself to drawing the interior and atmosphere of the Palácio da Bolsa, one of Porto’s most iconic landmarks. This book brings together a selection of these drawings, accompanied by texts on the palace’s history and architecture.
The graphic concept and editorial design were developed to reflect the delicate and poetic nature of the artist’s work. The book follows a structured route through the palace, beginning with the exterior and guiding the reader room by room into the interior, a coherent visual and spatial narrative from the general to the specific. Each space is introduced by a visual divider featuring a drawing and a title, followed by an introductory text that frames and describes the area depicted, and then the corresponding drawings.
The edition is bilingual, with Portuguese and English texts placed side by side in different colours, allowing for a clear and balanced reading experience in both languages, while maintaining visual harmony and keeping the focus on the artwork. Chromatically, black and a light sepia tone were chosen, colours that appear in much of the artwork, creating a subtle connection between the artist’s drawings and the accompanying text.
